Thank you for the words of wellness. I have to admit to you,as well as my best friend and husband Kevin...I came home early from work because they really were not gaining anything from me while having my leg elevated....we walk all day while treating patients. So I am writing this down so as to convince myself.
Since January of 2011, I have gained such a control of my wellness. I am good to so many others, and one day I woke up and said to my big old self, "Why not be good to myself?". And by "good" I mean healthy and getting to wellness. Trust me I was thinking I was good and "treating" myself to all these good foods, relaxing..."who needs to work out when you work so hard all day long?"...that kind of attitude. So for some time I "took care of myself.". Or so I thought was taking care of myself. Until I got on the scale and really, I mean REALLY focused on the numbers...243! This was the worst thing I could do to myself. I hated to look at the numbers as well as myself.
So at 46 years old, I have to find wellness for Helen. I can still help others, but I cannot do well for them if I keep getting fatter, heavier, tireder, achier, and too slouchy to even help myself.
So I began working out 1 hour/day for 5 days/week. Eating much healthier, but still treating myself when we would have dinners with and w/o friends. I deserved the glass of wine, and extra cheese with crackers, is how I would think. I lost 26 lbs doing this.
I needed to really dig in and lose more. So I increased the intensity of my workouts and lost another 8 or so. Not enough. Then there is Darin...
Half the time I cannot figure out what you are saying. I never thought I would ever have issue with listening to someone talk while I simply breathed...ok so maybe not so simple while I am trying to do whatever exercise "I'm on for the next 48 secs!" I need to concentrate on doing the exercise correctly for the most benefit to myself, right?! The intensity x less time works my muscles greatly...cause I am working muscles that have been asleep for many years...
Today I am 45 lbs lighter and feel great...Your words help,"food is ALWAYS in my control!

[I would like to state, for the record, that I had been watching Jim Weixel train with two other trainers for over a year, and couldn't help but think, "man...I would love to get my hooks into this guy; he's a total blue-chip athlete and I could really open up his eyes to elite athleticism through Crossfit!"]
"Hi Darin, I am in Maryland visiting family this weekend. I hit the local Gold's this am and had a great WOD. I did 3 sets of 10 reps each of: bench press@185, push press @115,and dead lift @185.
Then I did 3 sets of: 15 reps lying triceps extensions @60, 10 renegades with pushup @35, 10 HRPs, and 100 jump ropes. Then I did 3 sets of 10 each of: pullups, knees to elbows, and dips. Then 10 box jumps on the 30 inch box to see if I could do them. Success. Then 2 sets of Tabatas and some core work.
People were staring with puzzled looks on their faces. It was all good. Thanks for being a great coach and motivator and most of all for leading by example. You give me a high bar to strive for and I like that challenge."Have a great weekend.

Jim just happened to be away visiting family and instead of sleeping in and eating down-home cooking, he was twisting people's heads off with bewilderment at the local Globo...guy's a beast, period!]
